Privacy

Short version: you give me an email address. I use it only for what you signed up for, I never sell or share it, and you can leave whenever you want. If you buy the book, that purchase runs through a separate store — I never see your payment details. If you ask for a personal selection, your details are deleted once it has been sent.

What is collected

Your email address — when you sign up for the free first week of Already Ready or the weekly letter, or when you buy the DRM-free edition or the daily reader app on Gumroad. If you use the daily reader, my server also keeps your email address and licence key so you stay signed in. If you ask for a personal selection, I also receive your name, your email address and your answers to the questions on that page. That's all the personal data I hold.
No tracking pixels on this page, no analytics cookies, no third-party advertising.

What it's used for, and on what basis

The emails — one email with the first week of Already Ready (a PDF and an EPUB) and, after that, the weekly Don't Mind Rick letter and news around the book launch. Roughly one email a week, more only in the two weeks around launch. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

A personal selection — your name, email address and answers are used only to put your selection together and send it to you. They are not added to any mailing list. Legal basis: your request.

Buying the book

The book is sold through several external stores — Gumroad (the DRM-free edition), the Amazon Kindle store, and others such as Apple Books and Kobo. Whichever store you buy from is the seller: it handles your name, payment and delivery under its own privacy policy, not this one. Amazon, Apple, Kobo and the other stores only give me aggregated sales figures. Gumroad shares your email address with me so I can deliver what you bought. I use it only to tell you about updates to what you have, such as a corrected file or a new version of the daily reader, and every such email has an unsubscribe link. News about anything else goes only to people who signed up for the weekly letter. I never see your payment details.

Who processes it

The free series and the weekly letter run on Ghost; how Ghost handles and delivers email is in its privacy policy. Your address is never sold, shared, or used for anything beyond what's described here.

A personal selection is put together and sent with the help of a few service providers: for hosting, for AI-assisted drafting, for my own review before it goes out, and for email. Each gets only what it needs for its part; your name and email address are used only to send the selection to you.

Transfer outside the EU

Some of these providers, including Ghost's email delivery and Gumroad, process data in the United States, under the safeguards each of them describes in its own privacy policy.

How long

As long as you're subscribed. Unsubscribe (link in the footer of every email) and your address is removed from the active list. Want it gone entirely? Mail rick@dontmindrick.com and it will be deleted.

A personal selection: your name, email address and answers are deleted once your selection has been sent.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can, at any time, request access to your data, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its use, ask for a copy to take elsewhere, and withdraw any consent you gave. Just mail rick@dontmindrick.com.

If you think your data isn't handled properly, you can lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
